Cancun....Again!!

So after our amazing honeymoon to Cancun, Mexico, Terese’s dad got all excited and decided to take the family to Cancun for a whole week!! He has a condo/ timeshare in Cancun and decided to invite us along!! So of course, we accepted the invitation and had a great time!!! And this time, there was no time share presentation!!! Woo Hoo!! Freedom!!

We left on a Saturday and arrived in Cancun with what seemed like 10,000 other tourists and waited in the airport customs department for about 3-5 hours…..really. But as long as we are together, nothing really bothers us. We are still twitter pated…hehe. Saturday and Sunday we enjoyed some relaxation and swimming in the hotel pool and our part of the ocean and beach. This time we were able to prevent sunburns all week by having about 3 different types of sunscreen!!
Monday was a blast!! We took a special tour to a water park called Xel Ha and a city of Mayan ruins called Tulum. The ancient city Tulum was awesome and there was a lot of stuff to see there. The cool part about Tulum is that it is right on the beach and we were able to jump into the ocean to cool off before we left. Xel Ha was full of fun things to do like rope swings, cliff jumping, snorkeling, Mexican buffets, and iguanas all over the place.

Tuesday we were able to see the marketplace will all the little booths of Mexican souvenirs and stuff. Terese got a pretty necklace with sea shells on it and Drew just liked hearing the guys try to give us “special prices just for us”.

Wednesday was a really fun day for us because we got to swim with the bigger waves at the public and hotel beaches down at the other end of the city. It was our favorite thing that we did on our honeymoon and reminded us of what a good time we had. Terese’s dad, Curt, came with us and enjoyed it as much as we did!! There is just so much fun to have when you are in the ocean getting hit and carried by waves.

Thursday we enjoyed an incredible tour in which we went on a 12 mile ATV adventure thru Mexican streets, beaches, highways, and the best of all jungle trails. The purpose of the ATV adventure was to take us to amazing “cinotes” which are giant caves/ wells in the middle of the jungle. We saw two “cinotes” on our tour. The first was an underground cavern filled with nice cool fresh water. As we were inside the cavern swimming in the water we noticed that the water was a really nice blue color and it seemed like there were pool lights lighting it up. It turns out that it was the natural light from the sun that lit up the cavern’s water. We were able swim around and enjoy the cinote for quite a while. Our guide told us that it was discovered by a man who fell into it and climbed back out by the tree roots. The second “cinote” was really fun!! It’s most special feature was a zip line that was installed for all the tourists. And to cap the day off, we went and enjoyed a snorkeling tour thru the coral reefs of the Yucatan peninsula after some delicious authentic Mexican fajitas!! Oh yah, Drew burned his tongue and throat with the salsa that the waitress warned us about. Hehe…

Friday was our last full day in Cancun, were we enjoyed the ocean waves again at the public beach and some more pool time at the hotel. We are so lucky to have gone back to Cancun so soon after our honeymoon and are grateful to Terese’s parents who invited us to share some fun with them!!!
